About

Sherryn McBride is a freelance marketing consultant, copywriter, industry speaker, workshop trainer and author.

My strengths are simply helping business owners “make sense of their marketing”.

I hung out my shingle Marketing Talk to focus on SMEs in 2007, and since then I’ve worked with 600+ businesses, helping them get more noticed, remembered and referred through their marketing, digital, social media and customer service activities.

Recently I was selected by Facebook Australia as one of only 9 trainers in Aust/NZ accredited to deliver their Community Boost Program for small businesses.

The marketing community I love to work with

As a specialist in Small Biz and SME Consulting, I focus on working with:

  • business owners running out of time and energy to market themselves
  • small business owners, start ups, home based businesses, tradies and entrepreneurs wanting to upskill and DIY their own marketing
  • and SMEs ready to outsource their marketing to avoid the overheads of an in-house marketing manager.

An advocate for lifelong learning

I love delivering workshops and talks for industry groups, trade and membership associations, Chambers of Commerce, Universities, Local Govt Authorities, the Small Business Development Corporation and Business Local Centres around WA.

Breakfast workshop for City of Melville and Melville-Cockburn Chamber of Commerce

I’ve mentored 150+ business owners completing Curtin University’s Centre For Entrepreneurship Growth Programs, Bankwest’s Small Business Program, the SBDC’s BiZFiT Program and the Federal Govt’s ASBAS Programs.

My articles have been published globally – from the AMEX Australian Small Business website to Huffington Post and Coffee Canada.

My background

My knowledge is drawn from 20 years managing state branches for national/global corporations and consultancies from market research, mining equipment and electrical consumer goods – to philanthropic marketing, arts administration and community partnership brokering. This broad industry background, along with some early teaching and counselling qualifications, provides me with a toolbox of case studies, ideas and strategies to benefit the businesses I work with.

Touring WA for Facebook in 2019 and 2020

As the only WA trainer invited to Facebook Australia’s Sydney HQ to complete their Aust/NZ Community Trainer Program; I am now one of 9 independent training professionals across Aust/NZ qualified to deliver Facebook’s Community Boost Program to SMEs. In partnership with Facebook Australia and the Small Business Development Corp, I’ve been travelling WA bringing the Facebook/Instagram sessions to businesses in Albany, Broome, Busselton, Carnarvon, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Kununurra, Mandurah, Manjimup, Merredin, Newman, Northam, Perth, Pinjarra and Port Hedland so far.

The annual workshop series

A big believer in DIY marketing, I run an annual series of workshops:

I prepare a free monthly newsletter full of simple ideas that time poor business owners can easily replicate. Join the newsletter community at the footer of this page and you will be the first to see invitations to future workshops.

14 years running a small business in WA

Named one of 20 Entrepreneurial Australian Women in AIM’s Management Today Magazine, I was featured in the West Australian Business News, was a published Success Story on the SBDC’s website, recognised as a “Woman Of The Year with the Women In Business WA Network, profiled in The Canning Times, included in the West Australian Newspaper’s SME Pathways Magazine, voted one of 100 Most Influential Small Businesses in Perth and served 2 terms on the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce Committee.

Living near the Shelley foreshore in Perth, I often play hookie on a weekday swapping my home office for the laptop and park bench or nearby cafe. One of the joys of being your own boss!
